Is it a bird? Is it a plane?? It has wings... but its not a wasp, its not a bee, its not a fly! I dont have a clue what this is! but it sat very nicely for me while i took its picture. Its eyes are kind of weird!! But i hope you enjoy anyway!

It's all about perspective and perception.
Holy Schnikies! You even got the hairs on his abdomen! I don't think it's a wasp because of the short antennae and huge eyes even though it has yellow jacket markings on the abdomen. It could be some type of bee.

Fab shot. It's a hoover fly I believe (there are many varieties). The "looks" of this kind of fly is a form of mimicry used to fool birds they are a wasp so they will not be eaten.

Wonderful Macro! I'm pretty sure that's a bee fly, they resemble bees to ward off predators or something. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombyliidae
