...When I was a kid, I used to always enjoy going to the local dragstrip with my father and his friends to watch the quarter-mile races...My favorites were the modified, jacked-up Gassers... How I loved the roar of the mighty engines, and the wheelies they'd pull at the starting line when the driver smashed the accelerator pedal to the floor! Those were the days!

Above is a color/appearance modified version of the original image in the background...The "Purpyll Dawg" theme is borrowed from here...

I have always loved cars and racing. I can relate to how you feel about gassers. However, I really never got into drag racing. I loved the '54 Ford, '57 Chevy, '60 Thunderbird, '65 Bonneville, and just about every year of The Vette. When I hit the lottery, I'll have one (or more) of those classics!

John: I kind of miss the Gasser era...Nowadays, most of the rolling iron below Top Fuel class is now Pro Stock class, and like its big brother, is heavily corporate sponsored... Drag Racing today is big business!

Gassers however, were more on the "Mom and Pop" level with the sponsorship (if any at all), and competition was more a weekend thing between rivals that (depending upon the vehicle modification and distance) often drove, rather than trailered their machines to the track... Very different back then...
