The Dome of St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City. This was the last great design of Michelangelo, who died in 1624, two years before its completion ~ ~ ~ I would have preferred not to frame this but any larger and clarity was lost. I was reasonably pleased with the way it turned out as it is 136 metres high and 43 metres in diameter and my zoom was only 3x. The hazy blue bits are from the light streaming in the windows at the top. ~ ~ ~ Inscription: S. PETRI GLORIAE SIXTVS PP. V. A. M. D. XC. PONTIF. V. (To the glory of St Peter; Sixtus V, pope, in the year 1590 and the fifth year of his pontificate) . . . . . .Kodak V550 . . . . Thanks for taking a look and I welcome comments of any sort :)

Wowow, Eve ...
The colours are so well-defined and bold.
In particular viewing it in thumb I had an impression of watching the caleidoscope= kid's toy with the moving coloured shapes of glass pieces.
Studying the dome decorations would take SOME time !! LOL
Many thanks, dear Eve.

Well, I love his work, and I'm sure that all the figures represent some saint or another. This is especially vividly colored, but I guess that was a hallmark of the sculpturer who resisted painting. I should like to go to the Vatican just for the artwork alone. Count yourself lucky that you got to see this in person, Lyn. I count myself lucky that you posted this. :)

Lord this is beautiful ... the subject and your capture of it Eve. Absolute standout in the gallery. You couldn't have made a more appropriate and/or complimentary frame. This one goes in my favorites ... Thank you.

Amazing color and detail! I don't think the framing detracts at all. The colors help set it off. Beautiful job!

Shining the ceiling of the basilica of the vaticaan. It must be this high according to my man. He has been there also. I find the frame good, perhaps darker of the blue that you can try.

Amazing that you could get this much clarity! Also amazing that the bronze 'pulpit', if you will, below can fit entirely into this space so high above! Beautiful!

On a small picture it looks very unique but in full size it"s wonderful- looks like a oilpainting.Maybe your clarity was lost, but you found very good allowance with it!Like the blue double frame!Good work!

As you know, I was there too. I know how hard it is to capture things inside the Basilica. Lighting is not what you would call optimal. But I like how this one turned out, and presentation really is nice.

A friend of mine works in a camera store. The other day a very confused looking woman approached the counter and handed my friend a camera. She said "I took pictures, but I forgot to have film in the camera. Can you please get them out of the camera for me?"
