St Patrick's Basilica, Oamaru, New Zealand is constructed of Oamaru Stone, a localy quarried limestone. The foundation stone was laid on Trinity Sunday, 1893, and was opened on 18th November 1894. The architect of the this building was Francis W. Petre. Taken with Canon 450D, and post work in PSP - I needed to remove some power lines, so hope they had plenty of candles in there lol. Thank you for your views and comments which are always valued :)

I remember the stone from your quarry back when I first became a member LE. It sure is beautiful. They are probably working on getting power restored.
Good post.

The angle of your shot gives this a honorable and holy appearance to my eye. Most fitting indeed. Nice work.

That is an impressive looking Basilica Lyn. I like the angle from which you took this photo. We have to wait till it is dark to see whether they have enough candle. :)

The church looks wonderful against that amazing sky, Lyn. You've managed to convey the size and majesty of this building so well.

I love the angle of this, and that gorgeous sky, Lyn. Not to worry about the power lines being removed...I always carry a small flashlight on my keyring. LOL.

A beautiful looking Basilica and lovely architectural details. I like the angle of the shot and the lovely looking sky in the background. Nice colours and lighting in your scene.
It looks like the power restoration work has already started. Though the usually start the process from the street, not the building and one line at a time.
