Lake Ohau, MacKenzie Basin, South Island, New Zealand, at the the lower end of a glaciated valley it is confined by a moraine 16,000–18,000 years old. I decided it was worth getting a bit wet to get this shot from a low angle. . . . The Maori word 'Ohau' translates to 'windy place' and it was certainly the case a few days ago when this was taken. Canon 450D, 17-85mm lens. I hope you like it. Thank you for your views and opinions which are always valued and appreciated.

What a great combination of dramatic features, Eve. That huge foreground cloudbank appears to be chasing the waves, and the diagonals accentuate the cauldron like action taking place.

A great image. A real eye catcher! So much drama and intensity, created by strong contrast and saturation. Love the approaching waves. Was this done with HDR, to achieve so much scope of light?

Lyn - Exceptional work. The low angle captures the waves, which combined with the mountain range gives great lines to the photo. The eye is led up the waterway to the snow-capped peak. The clouds follow similar lines. Kudos! Thad

WOW...this does not even look real! Such a stunning landscape with the low angle of those crashing waves. The mountains on the sides leads the eyes to the snow top mountain in the back. And those clouds! What else can be said but a fantastic stunning view.

Its just stunning, I love the waves, the colours, the mountains, hell I just love it all lol. I love the steel tones in the water and the shape of the waves, captured so well, a great dof. The mountains are superb as well, pity that one huge sweep of white cloud unbalances the sky a bit, but nothing YOU could do about that! Mother Nature always gets the last word eh. :)

All I had to do was see the thumbnail to know that this image would be an instant favorite. The low angle, waves, dramatic peaks, and sky combine for an absolutely stunning photograph. Getting a bit wet was certainly worth getting this shot, I think.

I'm hoping you had a tripod along to steady the camera. Man, what a view! It's a touch soft but I'm guessing that was due to the atmospheric conditions. Even so, it's well deserving of the 90 index, looking like a still from a fantasy movie. Thanks for sharing, Lyn.
