The motto (partly obscured) on this sundial in our public gardens is "Be as true to each other as this dial is to the sun."
I believe it is showing the correct time. Photo is timed at 3.37 pm. Take off an hour for daylight saving time and then another half hour makes the time approx 2.07pm which looks pretty accurate. The reason for the extra half hour is because during the Southern Hemisphere's summer from early November to mid-February, a sundial loses about half an hour relative to a clock.
I took this today. I may enter it in the Shadows contest although I went looking for late afternoon tree shadows :)
