Koalas are native to Australia and although often referred to as bears they are marsupials. They feed on eucalyptus leaves from which they also derive their water requirements.The name Koala is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning 'no drink'.
As they sleep for approx 18 hours a day it is always a thrill to see a wide awake one :)

People are like cameras--sometimes they lose focus.
Lyn, this is captured perfectly. Really like the angle and the background, details and light just make this an exceptional photo. I think the animals really like you, and pose for the photo with care!

They are so cute and given their sleeping habits no wonder they seem to have a sleepy, laid back appearance all the time:)...good work catching this one with its' eyes open.

They are so sweet and very high stressed animals - held one when I was in Australia at the koala sanctuary (Koala Park Sanctuary outside of Sydney) Love this sweet profile
