Branta canadensis maxima.
Another resident of our Park duckpond. A very wise goose, it knows it is safe there. It is a handsome bird and gets along well with the various ducks.
Canada Geese may be hunted all year round in NZ as they are unprotected due to the fact they are pests. They damage grasslands and crops, disturb our native birds and foul the rivers. They are also a significant risk to aircraft.
(You probably don't want to know this but adult Canada Geese can deposit 1/2 to 1 & 1/2kilos of droppings per day per bird.)

Good close up of the Canada goose. I see them occasionally here - don't know where they come from.

Wonderful close up of this honker Lyn. I have been to parks where I have seen their numerous droppings, and I think they are considered pests here too, but I still like seeing them. tigs=^..^=

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

All you have to do is walk about after some geese have been feeding and know you are right about the droppings.
Good portrait of this poop factory.

These are magnificent creatures, they are majestic when they fly, they are protective of their young, and your capture is sublime. Your photo is stunning, colors, reflection, clarity. Favorite.

Lyn, in my country Canadian Geese create a mixed feeling as well. On the one hand they are wonderful birds, but on the other hand they cause identical 'problems' (in particular to farmers) as the ones described in your narrative. A fine capture to me however!
