I was out weeding round my lavender plants today when this beautiful Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus) fluttered past my face. She (yes it was a female) must have not long emerged as she was bright and shiny and perfect. Her wing span was at least 3 inches. My phone was closest so I used it for the photos. I was afraid she would disappear if I went inside for a camera but now I wish I had because she fluttered around happily for quite some time.

Lyn, like Kathy and Sandi, I didn't know that there are Monarch's in New Zealand. I was told that they migrate to Mexico at the end of the season. If this is true, it has a long way to go and it will be disappointed when it notices that it has arrived at the wrong time, 😁 !
Anyhow a wonderful and perfect capture, taking into account that it was taken by a cell phone camera!
