Lifeguard missing?

This shot was on the Costa Da Caparica, just outside Lisbon, Portugal. Taken on the 1st October 2009. The lifeguard flags are all flying, to signify the beaches are no longer being patrolled (although the lifeguard was in a bar behind the camera enjoying some beer and sardines...)

Nice capture Richard. The colors and composition are right on. The simplicity of image makes it very relaxing and easy to imagine being there. Well done.

Nice composition. The blue sky compliments this well.

This picture, is well taken, well composed with a perfect exposure, and for people who like empty beach shots a dream. But... I have to say that I am unsure about it. To some extent it is a nice empty beach shot perhaps spoiled by the objects, on the other it is a collection of objects on a beach. I understand why they are there, but only because you have told me in the text; the image does not convey this directly. Without the objects the image is a little sterile, in the sense that it is just a beach shot, there is no interpretation to the scene. Compared to 'Beachy Autumn Sun' or 'Broken Clouds', even 'Children in the mist' it is so ordinary. I think a wide angle lens would have helped make something of it, even B&W with an orange filter. I don't know, it just screams at me to do something, but then I do fiddle a lot with pictures. Please do not take this the wrong way, There is nothing wrong with the picture, and the above comments are only my personal opinion.

Like this Richard, the sense of emptiness with the lovely composition to the right of the frame works well for me. There's something sublime about the combination of shapes that is really pleasing against that gorgeous blue sky. I disagree with the comment above.. but do think it might benefit from a little of the empty space being cropped slightly.

I actually like the sense of emptiness....it signifies the season being over and the crowds having dispersed....I think it stands alone without the comments (although I enjoyed the little tidbit about the lifeguard) A very well composed shot...colors and lighting are very nice too.
