XB-70 Valkyrie-- Bryce & Photoshop-- The XB-70, one of the world's most exotic airplanes, was conceived for the Strategic Air Command in the 1950s as a high-altitude bomber that could fly three times the speed of sound (Mach 3). Because of fund limitations, only two were built, not as bombers, but as research aircraft for the advanced study of aerodynamics, propulsion, and other subjects related to large supersonic aircraft.--- Hope you enjoy it. If you do please Vote--- Thank You, Xwild

The Valkyrie is a cracking plane. A bit like the TSR-2 in the UK. Except they destroyed everything to do with it....including using the rigs for target practice. See here for info about it.

Wow. I love the sleek look she has..whether you did it or this is an exact replica, it doesn't matter. I know nothing of Bryce, but this had to be difficult to create. Everything has a realistic look to it, so high marks and into my fav;s on my h/d! thanks :))

I really like the way you framed it and the overall impact is really strong. I've seen one of the originals several times in the AF Museum in Dayton...even close up, it still looks futuristic. One minor criticism...the "real" XB-70 has a flat finish, not reflective, although I like the artistic effect you got with this pic. Also, the "actual" reason (if there was only one) they cancelled this project was USSR's development of effective SAMs with high altitude capability. Unlike the much smaller SR-71 which actually had many "stealth" features and could not be picked up on tracking radars until it was too late to launch a SAM, the XB-70 would have been easy to see a long way off and probably would have been a sitting duck for SAMs. And, unlike the "low tech" B-52, the XB-70 could not fly low enough to use terrain masking to "hide" from radar. Still, a great plane and a very cool illustration.

Outstanding - a 10.

Since the Mig-25 was developed as a response to the XB-70, how about a render of the Foxbat? Or one of the other great Russian jets? My favorites are the SU-27 Flanker and Mig-29 Fulcrum. The Lockeed F-104 Starfighter is also a good candidate.

Thanks for the great picture.

Hey, James! This one is superb! Professional level work! You could sell it to the Air Force. :) Actually, if they're cheap, I'll take one too. :) On a scale of one to ten, I give it a 15. Nice work.

Thanks everyone, I did this image for a fell'a that helped me and my son out with some RC parts. I was his idea and request so basically I have to give him the credit for reminding of the XB-70. I thought it was a well deserving project since there really aren't allot of images of the plane. I hope I did it justice.

Thanks Again!,

I'm the person who requested the XB-70. James has done an outstanding job on this jet!! All of his aircraft hold a special place in my heart, but the XB-70 has always held the #1 spot. The History of the XB-70 is one that is filled with triumph and loss. The XB-70-A2 was downed in a tragic mid-air crash with a NASA F-104 during the filming of a GE Engine "Family Photo" Promotion flight. Lost were the A2's Co-pilot and the Pilot of the NASA F-104. The XB-70's cranked wingtips produced an effect called compression lift (simular to how a Tunnel hull racing boat "Floats on a cushion of air) and this effect is partly responsible for the high MACH 3 Speeds she could obtain. The F-104 flew too close to the Cranked wing-tips, and flipped up-side down and rotated ovr the top of the XB-70, shearing off Both Vertical Rudders. The jet flew normally for about 15 seconds, but finally entered into a flat spin and crashed in the Nevada Desert. James's Artwork is a living tribute to the family and crews who flew her, and to those who made the ultimate sacriface.

What Tom say's is true. He came to me and said that it was his favorite aircraft and asked if I could possibly create an image for him of the XB-70. I consider him a true friend, because of the help that he has given to me and my son on R/C flying. I wanted to return the favor, and what you see here is the final result. I'm really happy that I disappoint him, and all of you. It's always a real pleasure.

Thank you Tom, and to all of you for the great support. I really appreciate it!

James

Nice picture.

Try one of the x-15.

FYI - The remaining, second, copy of the XB-70 is in the USAF Museum in Dayton, Ohio. It is incredible to stand under the white giant and image what it was like when operating. This pic is a super representation of this bird.

Fantastic job. It's nice to see someone taking the time to keep exotic birds like the XB70 alive at least in our memories. I can vouch for what RCParkflyer says. I had a full three page article with photos from the LIFE magazine showing the whole crash from start to finish.
I too build and fly R/C planes. Hey now wouldn’t that be a cool plane to build someday?

Although I dot not like too much digital images such us those generated by Bryce, for instance, I have to admit that this one is really gorgeous.
It is a great work and it looks like a true picture taken up on the sky from another carrier flying close to the XB-70-
Fantastic and my sincere congratulations.

Now I'm curious about Bryce's images. I'll have to go check them out too. I do love this image though. It's really nice. (what's Bryce's caedes name?)
