One of those photos that surprised me once I got into the digital dark room. A huge amount of busy lines in this but somehow the image conveys calmness. I processed it to work with that quality. The old parts of Kyoto have amazing lines and style, wonderful use of space, what defines the space and what is inside the space.

Aside from all of the appealing lines; lighting on the primary subject and throughout your image is superb, Mikel. Even the second person in the background draws my attention as I study the Kyoto culture in your photo. Fantastico!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

All the lines and architectural details in this photo are a direct contrast to the simplicity of her dress and that gentle smile on her face. I lived and worked in Japan, back in the early 70's, and there and since learned much about them as a people and their philosophy and way of life. The elegance of this woman and the compactness of her environment is, to my experience, highly symbolic of the Japan I know and saw. The gorgeous lighting and perfect composition of this piece is the frosting and top cherry. I've gone to college for fine art and have shot and processed photos for many years, and I can say without reservation that this is a masterwork. Lovely.

Mikel, I will not repeat the very well chosen words that 'Nik' uses in his narrative, but when I say: "This is a masterpiece!", it may be clear to you what I'm thinking about your post. Therefore it was S+F by me! Thanks for sharing it!
