Many houses in the fine old city of Norwich where I live, date back to the mid-1800s. The smaller houses are often terraced (joined together in a row) and are concentrated in an area of character known as the Golden Triangle. This photo is a view of my neighbour's porch across the road, which always looks handsome in bright sunlight. In my street, the house-deeds are so old they state that we're forbidden to keep pigs, brew alcohol or burn lime in our back gardens!! Given that there's a pub, butcher's & DIY shop all within 2 minutes walk, not many of us are tempted to flout the bylaws.

I love the colors and shapes in this photo. The blue door against the prange roof really makes the photo jump. The green leafy frame around the door works well too. Of course since most of the work was done by the person who designed the house-front I think what really makes the photo work is what's NOT in it. You included only what you wanted, and that's why this is a lovely photo, and not just a picture of a house.

When I first saw this I thought the background colours are odd but at full screen they are appropriate for the photo and look good. The photo itself is a real treasure done in an old style that I find most appealing. Even the shadows from the awning are just right. As I said it’s a real treasure.

There are three colours, Ten digits and seven notes, its what we do with them that’s important. Ruth Ross

Seen on the tumbnail, it looked like a painted postcard. You did a wonderful manipulation on your photo, and I like the frame a lot. Great job!

Just a wee note, in case you've read Regmar's, Robert's and Hilde's comments above:

My photo certainly excludes more than it includes. Didn't think you'd want to see the burgler-alarm to the right of the porch or a bush so overgrown that it completely blocks out the house's windows! The colours have been seriously punched-up in my photo to emphasise the contrast between the terracotta pantiles and a rather non-descript blue of the front door. Thank goodness for digital enhancement software!!

Indeed it looked like a pretty illustration in the thumbnail ... In full size it changed into a house from the story of Paddington Bear !!! At least this is how I always imagined the street where the bear lived ...
The colours are patriotic too - on account of Her Majesty birthday I guess !!! LOL
10/10 needless to say.

Your enhancement makes it look like a watercolour painting. Excellent work.

I have not been so amazed at a photo in a long time. This appears just like it was a canvas painting. If I could paint this I would love to ! But I am not good at foliage etc...but oh gosh, I might just have to try. I am just blown over by the beauty of this scene!! I have to admit tho, I dont care much for the blue and the red on each side. I am not sure what I would prefer...but something that would be toned down a bit. I think if those colours were muted a bit, softened, then it would be perfect. BUt its already perfect!! hehe...the best shot Ive seen you take, and one of the best on caedes ever!!!!

Still blushing from Verena's comments above... thank you, my dear!

The image has the blue and red 'sidebars' because I'm unsure how to resize a portrait-shaped photo into a horizontal-shaped one that fits the Caedes' 1600x1200 format.

I prefer to use Corel's Paint Shop Pro (version 10.03) rather than Photoshop and the canvas-like effect of this image was achieved using Textures/Paper/Rough combined with the Frames/Faded Edge.

As a watercolourist, I intended doing a painting of this photo but thanks to the effects achieved through digital enhancement, I felt why gild the lily when PSP has already done it for me in one-tenth the time!

This is unique not to mention colorful. What a pleasant sight from your side of the street. I like the treatment you gave it around the edges. The border is different as well. The two colors you chose fully compliment the rest of the composition. Very Nice.

Now here's a nice edit, it looks like a flag, very much like a flag, and a great and innovative flag it would make too!
The colors are in perfect harmony here, nothing bothers the eye. Ten points!

Interesting idea, two different colors for borders. I like it. Have it saved for screen saver!

This looks like a photo of a painting and I think it is absolutely stupendous! You could frame this and hang it and be so very proud of it. Congratulations! I'm from Canada but did a house exchange in Broome (near Bungay) and I remember seeing places like this in Norwich...but you certainly have captured the "old world" charm. Well done!
