DownUnder we call 'em the same and when I was a wee lad they scared the crap out of me, having a three inch long monster come humming around my head. I love them these days, elegant and beautiful insects, as your lovely shot demonstrates. Good one Pat.

With all that I've been seeing lately we shouldn't have any Mosquito's at all.
