There had been a storm that day and when the sun set the dunes where shaped, carved and shiny as only nature can do. Then this overcast shifted in and there was...well you can see for yourself. It was unforgettable, also because I had a ton of sand in my eyes.

Stunning photo! Fabulous detail, composition, lighting, everything...and having a great eye and patience doesn't hurt, either. Nice work.

These are the dunes at Maspalomas, Gran Canaria. They stretch for about a mile wide and they have been used in motion pictures as desert backgrounds.
Nice to see you like this one. I still find the sand in places I can't mention here...

Wow Paul, I feel like I am looking though a National Geographic magazine! The lines that are etched in the dunes are incredible. It is difficult to believe that Mother Nature and some wind could create something so gorgeous. There is great contrast with the blue sky and forboding gray sky. Yet both compliment the color of the dunes quite well. This is first 10 I have give in a while & I don't mind telling you! Right into my faovrites folder on my harddrive. Glad you shot this depite the sandy conditions...hope are able to get the rest of the sand out before summer! Thanks for the post :~).

Lucky you. I wish I could go to Gran Canaria in winter... just for a couple of days to reload my batteries. But you are a good pal cause you brought some interesting photos from this I suppose unforgettable holiday . What strikes me most is the clear focus on the sand dune. Despite the weather and sand wind (judging upon the sand in your teeth, lol) the photo is so sharp. Awsome.

Oh ... sorry ... one minute please ... *wipes sand from eyes and nose and ears and and ...* :oP

Beautiful shot.

The dune itself is worthy of a frame, with the detail and clarity of the contours showing ... but ... add in the drama of that sky ... wow. Just wow.

I love the contrasts in colours, as well as the overall palette. And again, the additional element of the textures present ... really nice.

Thanks for sharing this image ... +fav for me. :o)

I had to look twice and reread your explanation before realizing I was seeing a photo and not a computer-generated image. There are times when nature is so perfect it almost doesn't look real. I'm just a little disgusted with the 69 c-index rating I see here. It should be in the upper 80s at least.
