The Little Green Heron's call is a loud and sudden kyow; it also makes a series of more subdued kuk calls. During courtship, the male gives a raah-rahh call with wide-open bill, makes noisy wingbeats and whoom-whoom-whoom calls in flight, and sometimes calls roo-roo to the female before landing again. While sitting, an aaroo-aaroo courtship call is also given.

His colours are so beautiful. And by the looks of his claws, he must be a pretty good sized bird. How fortunate you were to find him and take such good photos. Verena

Someday Paul, I hope to know my camera as well as you obviously know yours. That is, if I can regain some of my lucidity. Beyond the obvious merits of this image's quality - color and clarity - you crop your images just right, with extra space in front of the bird, allowing it's attention and ours to have a direction. Our sense of direction follows the gaze of the bird off-frame to whatever it is he is so intently looking at. Most folks would simply center the bird, and it would just be a photo of a bird. Placing him slightly off-center adds character the viewer can sense but not necessarily recognize. That's one of the reasons why National Geographic usually comes to mind when I look at your submissions. Thanks for sharing it with us.
