Bear with me!

Just over a month ago, I was swimming with my kids and wife outdoors in Juniper Spring in Florida. The campround is out in the forest... Anyway I was getting out of that natural spring to make a photo of my wife and kids swimming. Immediately I urged them to get out of the water too. "why daddy, the water is nice and warm!". So I told them to get out of water, "right now!". So they came out of water and I say: "turn around, what do you see there?". Can you even begin to imagine their amazement when they saw a bear right at the waterfront! And you know what? I have been in Canada and USA parks several times and never saw a wild bear. And off all places, in the campround of Juniper Springs Florida they came looking for me! And you!

Actually Paul, black bears are not uncommon in Florida. I believe with the growth of urban areas in this country, and rural as well, more and more wildlife is being brought into contact with humans. Even here in North Dakota, we have an occasional moose and bear siting, and enough mountain lions to have a hunting season for them. Last year one was even seen and shot a block from my god-daughter's kindergarten building... in town... in the middle of the afternoon! I've lived here for about 53 of my 56 years and I don't recall mountain lions being sited regularly until perhaps five years ago. The thing about your photo that is uncommon is the tack-sharp quality. Well... it's uncommon for the rest of us hackers, anyway, but not, apparently, for you. :D Thanks for sharing it.

Oh Paul this is absolutely magnificent! What a kind of scary thing to find just suddenly like you did, but how wonderful to see them like this! Good thing they are 'friendly' little guys!
The photos is so clear and just precious. Thank you so very much. Verena

This is ridiculously cool Paul. Both faces beautiful crisp, the sheen of light on that black fur, the sense of playful personality. The tight crop works a treat too.

It is almost like they are dogs trying to play with each other! I love bears, and hope to eventually work with them.
