That "mitten" appears to be reaching for the gnarly branch above it, as though to pull itself up and out of the desert. I've always like views of these unique formations ever since watching the old John Ford black & whites when I was a kid. These formations appeared to me to be islands in the dirt, left behind by giants. A different perspective on them than I've seen. I like it.

Fabulous composition! How did you manage the foreground and background focus? I can only accomplish that with 2 images combined.
