This shot is of the renowned Bow Bridge in Central Park. It is a cast-iron bridge, measuring a total of 87 feet and spans across 60 feet of the Lake, linking the flowering landscape of Cherry Hill with the sprawling woodland of the Ramble. Completed in 1862, it is the first cast-iron bridge in the Park (and the second oldest in America). It has been in many movies and commercials over the years.

Nice shot, Tom.

'Entrancing' is the descriptor that comes to mind.

Flow within frame and that of the repetitive shapes on the bridge itself.. makes for a great image

Composition is good good. As is, the exposure.

And I would add, that I think you dialed in the DOF ... just..right.

Best of luck in the contest. :o)

Joanie,

Thanks for the comment,

I can't expect you to understand the photographic arts since you do fractal art, but I can explain parts of it to you and hope you absorb some of what I pass on to you for future reference when viewing photos. Who knows, you may be the first to use a certain photographic effect in your fractal art.

Not every part of every photo is supposed to be totally in focus. It is called Depth of Field (DOF) or "Bokeh" and it is done on purpose for several reasons.

1) To make a photo more pleasing to the eye by isolating the subject of the image from the background/foreground.

2) It is often employed to accentuate the distance between two or more points in the image.

3) It can be used to leave an aspect of an image up to the viewer's imagination/interpretation by hinting that something is there without having it defined by the camera.

4) Sometimes it gives a photo a dreamy quality or heightens the mood of an image.

I hope that clears up why it was not as sharp as you think it should have been.

I like the fan-out composition of the shot. If I were going to be picky, I'd ask to see the top edge included in the shot in its entirety. Central Park being the busy place it is, I'm guessing you're cropping out unwanted elements such as hands and birds, etc? Most fitting entry thus far. Nice.

Actually the top was cropped out due to spots of sunlight coming down through the trees that were bright & distracting. If you look at the bottom left of the image you can see the spots of sunlight on the bridge deck and how they are cut off from the shadow of the balustrade.

To me, the image flows like a wave. I don't see a problem with the cropping, in fact, the lack of context increases this unusual perspective on a more familiar object. Sometimes, happenstance, such as removing a flaw in the image, creates something visually interesting. For whatever reason, this works.

To my Eyes, this Image is Aesthetically pleasing As it is... with the Fading focus creating An interesting Effect. The flow of the Subject separates this Work from the Usual. I found that I appreciated it Even more taking a Step back from my Monitor...

An excellent Entry, Tom!

Love this. Apart from the contest gallery I found it in, it's just a lovely tone with an interresting undulation and compression of the pattern as it moves away. Seems more organic than it is.
