Someone asked a while back what a drainage garden is, so I took a picture of it and the accompanying sign that explains it. Basically, instead of leaving a low-lying area that drains into a culvert, a flower garden is planted. If the rains are heavy, it floods (up to a limit) and then slowly absorbs the water, thus providing a natural filter to the drain water. The plants are all attractive and attract butterflies. This one serves as a drain basin for a nearby parking lot.
