I almost missed this, but my wife pointed it out. The sign says "Zamia Fern." The "cobs" are seed cones, much like pinecones.

Jeff, I initially thought that you had captured an artificial plant. But on closer look, I saw that this is a real plant, known by the official name of Bowenia spectabilis.
It's a plant native and restricted to a certain place (endemic): Queensland, Australia. Must have been exported to the botanical Lauritzen Gardens.
