We went back the same way, so this view is the backside of the arch. The ground is like a beach, but the sand is extremely fine like talcum powder. In Pouge Creek Canyon in Tennessee.

Spending years traversing the western badlands of North Dakota and in north-central South Dakota, I am somewhat used to the awe of magnificent geologic formations, but those rope-like layers of sculpted rock, high above the hikers tunnel, are the epitome of magnificent. To sit there and study them at length, and consider the forces that had to be present to create this scene, is a geologists dream (I am no geologist but I did work with a number of them for decades).

You captured a magnificent view from the backside, Jeff! The rock formation is a wonder to look at.

Another very fine capture of this geological phenomenon, Jeff.

If I could be there, I wouldn't speak a word because I was in awe.
