By ^new^, Jeff, I assume this lake was created by the construction of a dam, which would account for all the trees rising out of the water in your photo. As lovers of kayaking, my wife and I find that new lakes are the best places to paddle, with everything fresh with scenes one does not see in old bodies of water, and, specifically, without the rot and mold of dead trees and smaller growth. If you go back to this very spot and angle, the comparison with this photo would be amazing but inevitable.
