They fly with a wild abandon and make surreal clicking noises. When I was a child some of the boys called them knitting needles and said they could sting worse than a bee because they could sew into your arm. They were nevertheless an object of amazement and fascination. No wonder someone named these fantastical creatures after Dragons.

They are one of my two favorite bugs, so categorized because of the volume of mosquitoes they eat, a bug that is the epitome of useless danger. Up close dragonflies have one of the most unattractive faces, but the bright colors and delicate wings of leaded glass negate their questionable visage. Your angle on this one avoids that problem. The other insect I like, and have had as a pet (of sorts), is the praying mantis.

Paul, because of their relative huge eyes, nothing escapes to their attention.
I didn't know that they were capable to sting. I've captured many of them, but never was stung. Think they had other priorities then: like 'Nik' said in his comment above, probably consuming lots of mosquitoes, 😁 !

I will fully admit I'm afraid of dragon flies - I know that is stupid but - I was chased and buzzed by one when only about 3 years old. We never figured out why but I still don't like them. Having said that, this is a great shot Paul.
