I took this photo of the moon a couple of nights ago on a tripod, 300mm zoom. The sky was layered in from another photo I took earlier in the day. That was darkened to give the appearance of nightime but the moon layer I left alone. Thanks in advance for looking or commenting. - Patty

The two images are perfectly blended together in this, and I'm not sure whether this is considered a manip or not, but it works well...the picture of the moon is outstanding..the clarity is so real you can see features..Thanks for the tip about how you were able to capture it so well. The sky looks as though it is facing a sunset we can't see and the moon is bright enough to be seen as a shining entity in the sky despite the almost complete sunset...got me thinking anyway...it's a very nice composure :)PJ

This is great Patty, I saw the same moon last night, and thought about getting out my tripod, but never did, glad you posted this.

Hey Patty that's a stunning capture of the moon! It looks very dramatic and professional. Yes, what you did qualifies as a manip - when you add or blend another photo, that's it, you did a mani! Great work. :)

This looks just like what I saw in the sky this evening. It came out beautifully Patty. I guess I'd call it a manipulation too. Sometimes it seems you can call an image an assortment of different things. It's difficult to decide. I keep looking for a garden category, but there is none.LOL

You did a great job with this Patty. I'd never know it was two images combined. You're a lot better than you give yourself credit for. Was the pic of the moon taken with a time exposure and if so ... how long? Or is that a trade secret ... I'll sign a letter of sworn secrecy if you like. You can trust me ... Honest Injun ... Thanks everyone! And John, I had to go back and check the EXIF info - shutter went off at 1/320sec and f/stop was 7.1. It was way too bright to take at anything too much slower. I took quite a few, all on manual settings with shutter priority. The 1/250sec wasn't too bad either but higher than 1/320 was too dark. But, now, don't tell anyone else :))

This is very very nice Patty... I hope you are very proud of yourself. You should be. This is terrific. I absolutley love Moon shots. We haven't seen the moon here for a couple of weeks. It has been too cloudy or hazy...It is just a bright blur in the sky.

Congrats Patty on this one!

This is really a great composition. I tried to take a shot of the moon the other night and got two of them. One was a blue moon. It took a while to figure out just what happened. I believe it was because I had left my UV lens on the camera and it duplicated the moon only colored it blue. Chuck

Awesome shot and cloud manip. WOW. 300mm zoom, very cool. I just got a Fuji Finepix E900, not a dslr and only 3x zoom, but it was a huge upgrade for me and I'm having fun with it. Looks like your having a lot of fun with your shots to and they look great. Thanks for sharing. I took a moon shot two nights ago, but it can't touch this one. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

hey Patti this is a very interesting composition
if you dont mind ill make a couple of hopefully constructive comments ... not glaring mistakes just small details to possibly give you a different or maybe improved effect

1 fairly importantly the light in the two components is coming from different angles

you could use PS to horizontally flip the clouds no one would know (you cant very well flip the moon as it wouldnt be recognisable, people know its patterns ;) !!!) having flipped the clouds you may have to call it moon set not rising lol

2 to a lesser extent you could blend the moon in with a slight hint of cloud, where some of a layer of cloud crosses it, just to put it into the context of a lightly clouded sky also the clouds give quite a strong impression of a reddy browny colour ... you could add a tiiiiny touch of that as a wash to the moon too but not a lot just the slightest hint, again helping to put it into the same context

maybe try these tips and see if it gives your image a different impression
there are no rights or wrongs ... see if you like the effects

hope this helps

damn awesome shot of the moon itself
and a very nicely delicate shot of the clouds
nice idea to put them together

i wonder how you like my own FULL MOON IN CASSIOPEIA
