When I was a kid we were ever mindful of the dangers of playing near the tracks. Knowing enough to be cautious on the 'shiny tracks' we would 'protect' ourselves by putting our ear to the rail listening for the distant approach. I don't remember ever hearing a train but I do remember a few greasy ears. A train is coming, can you hear it? Shhh. *click*

One of the best shots I've seen in a while! The scenery is gorgeous, perspective is a treat and the depth of view goes on forever. Well done, Rob.

Great photo Rob - I agree with rvrman21 though - the frame takes away rather than adds to this image.

Louis/Kalen:

It's a funny thing about frames. You either like'm or you don't. *wink*

As for me its not so much that I like the frames as much as I DON'T like my icons getting lost in the detail of the wallpaper OR having the photo compromized by the 'noise' of the icons. Some of my images are posted without frames but for those that are, I would certainly send an unframed picture to anyone in response to a PM request.

I'm glad you like the photo!

Rob

Very nice scenery that brings backsome wonderful childhood memories. From the look of that little black sign I would guess you are standing at a crossing. I'm not sure if it was intentional that the image is tilted to the left to visualize lowering your ear to the track? Beautiful image:-)

Hey Darryl, Thanks for your comments. I have a truck load of railroad memories too. As to the tilting ... I'd like to say that was by design but it's just that my left ear is 3 times normal size and I often forget to compensate for the extra weight. Sorry. *wink*

The shot was from a crossing .. and from the seat of my car and well seperated from a good stance. It was just too darn cold to step out!

Yes, well the better to hear with;-) Pennies made for a lot of fun when you could find them after the train had passed.

A beautiful image with a very recognizable text to it.
I see you have fixed a larger window now..hehe...very good...but in this case I prefer a 1600x1200 window...hehe.

Gosh this is fantastic! YESSS I can hear the train! lol...Ilived next to a track like this in South Dakota for many years...it was about 150 feet away...but I loved hearing its lonesome sound at night...this is such a good pic...not only the white of the snow..but the browns...the rich grays and the sky of course...and the depth is best..wowzer..great one!!

It's amazing the response that a few words and a hastily taken picture from the seat of a car can invoke.

I love the photo. It is a beautiful winter scene. I don't the picture tipped to the left, at least it looks that way to me. The clarity and contrast of the white snow against the brown of the ground between the tracks is superb. Great post.
