Strong backlighting has washed all the colour out of these golden sands and clear blue pools, creating an alien landscape. Watergate Bay, 13th November '04

Very different sort of image. In monochrome tones, it could pass for a snow scene. Nice one, Si.

This is good. I love the shapes that are formed by the pools in the sand. The monochrome choice was also a good one.

Thank you all - I agree that the monochrome effect suits this one, but can't take any credit for choosing it as it's a by-product of the backlighting. Taking pictures into the sun can produce much more dramatic shots than conventionally lit ones :-)
