Found at a Summer market, have no idea what it is called. I thought it was really unusual, made me afraid to touch it.

Carol, your very fine Foofy Friday (F²) contribution shows a species of an Eryngium.
Common names include eryngo and sea holly.
Some species are grown as ornamental plants in gardens.
