Thanks for the comments. No it was not very difficult to take it. Koalas, though not rare, are often difficult to find in large forrests, but there is one special place about 170km from Melbourne that I know one can always find them. This is cropped from a portrait shot and taken with a 100-400 mm lens, probably set on 400 at the time. So I might have been 10-15 metres away.

I love koalas and won't to go to australia when I get older to see them in their natural habitat. I heard they stink... lol. This picture is amazing, especially the light coming in through the Eucalyptus tree... wonderful picture.
perfect timing here! and the litte fellow is adorable :) i love those little koalas, they are certainly one of the cutest animals in the world.. who could resist those eyes and the dreamy, wise look in their eyes..? :)
nice details in this shot.. and a great close up, it certainly seems like you were a step away from the koala. good work with the framing, too; little koala is in the middle, surrounded by trees - the focus is on the little animal, and not the background.. also, the eucalyptus leaves make a nice detail in the picture.
and i forgot - great lightning here! high marks from me :) i'm looking forward to seeing some more animal pictures of yours! enjoy :)
enjoy!
