Apophysis and Photoshop CS5

I combined two scripts by Shortgreenpigg:

3D Tubes and Wires
Spiral Bubble

Software used:

Apophysis 3D
Photoshop CS5 (gradient background and enhancements)

Old render: 2 October 2011
Wallpaper set up 3 October 2011
Wallpaper eventually worked on 3 October 2018

I can't believe those dates!!

The original fractal was nice but very orange and green against a pure black backdrop. Then I thought it would be right for Halloween, so ran the Photoshop autolevels on it and all these colours just sprang out of nowhere. Not so much orange and green, but I prefer this.

I used a layer mask to bring out the detail in the bottom corner, otherwise the honey bubbles fade away.

For fans of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass Band:
A Taste of Honey

Oh, that's what he looked like? Cool video. :-)

I really like what Apophysis can do in the hands of a master. It has a cheerful brightness to go along with it's complexity, like a child's Spirograph in 3D. And it's hard not to infer some higher meaning to what are just colored lines following a few modest equations. But our amazing natural world is built from simple things, endlessly repeated. Single grains of sand make a beach, drops of water make an ocean, atoms of hydrogen make our blazing sun. So it's hard not believe your art doesn't tap into some arcane dimension that we could see if we only looked harder.

PS - A Taste of Honey was my favorite melody as a child. My grandfather had the new album and would play it for me on his record player when we came to visit. And the album cover made me swoon. Even at 7 or 8 years old, I felt her 'look' down to my toes.

The master being Shortgreenpigg with his Apophysis scripts -- I agree! I'm still an apprentice and don't think I'll ever get beyond that stage, as it takes a lot of time and concentration, and I have other interests.

I love your thought about the arcane dimension -- I keep feeling there's a pattern in our universe that I would understand and appreciate if only I could see it. Though you've just reminded me of a 'fall' moment yesterday afternoon. I was trudging up the path, hauling a massive wheelie bin behind me, passing between banks of flowers and shrubs, golden leaves everywhere, the breeze ruffling my hair and scintillating light rays darting past, everything looking absolutely suburban-picture-perfect. Out of the blue, standing on that path, I thought to myself "and I'm part of this picture!" We all are.

I think your gift of the gab is catching. :-) Lol.

I need to look up this album cover... you've got me curious now.

The album is Whipped Cream & Other Delights.

There's a pretty good scan here: https://www.allmusic.com/album/whipped-cream-other-delights-mw0000201513

And the cover girl now: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/herb-alperts-whipped-cream-lady-now-76-living-in-longview-and-looking-back/

Oh, and Herb definitely lip synced the song from your original link. They could actually have been playing The Rose of Tralee.

Thanks for the links, Russ. That's a good album cover. I did a little digging around myself, and there seem to be various spoofs of it; it's that well known.

I wondered also about the video... he seemed a bit laid-back! Nice set-up, though; very mellow.
