I have tried to improve the perspective of the spider here, following some suggestions received on the original version, and trying out some of the ideas I mentioned. I have removed the original image from the site now. Thank you all for helping me improve it.

Personally, I like the first one better, but agree that this one looks more realistic too.
One looks like it's underwater, the other floating above.

I like this one, the spider is more visible. Either way, they are both beautiful pictures!

Thank you very much everyone. Since most people seem to think that this has a more realistic perspective, I thought someone might like to know what I did to improve it. The blending on the spider is the same as in the original, that is, using burn mode with about half transparency. The change was in the shape and uniform transparency of the spider. In the original version I had gotten it to look as good as I could by only manipulating the shape of the whole spider to try to make it match the water's surface.

In this version I used a mesh warp to stretch just certain parts of the spider so that the 'closer' portion seems to stretch towards the viewer, as Bob suggested. I planned to do this with a barrel lense distortion, but the mesh warp ended up giving me much more freedom to tweak it the way I wanted. I then used a gradient mask layer, as I mentioned in the original discussion, to fade the upper portion of the spider to a lower opacity. I also increased the opacity of the whole spider layer beyond what it was in the original version, so the closer portion is more visible to compensate for the fading out of the upper portion (the compromise I mentioned in the original discussion). In the end I think the spider is in fact more visible in this version, and more realistic. Thanks again for all the feedback and suggestions.

What a lovely place to find the Caedes spider :) That water is like glass - and the spider looks like a natural part of it. I like that cloud that looks like a person-And the dark foreground. A wonderful image for Caedes...
