I must admit when we first came to Greece I had no idea of the procedure for picking the olives for olive oil. It is awesome. So, after the olives are picked, the small branches that were cropped from the trees, need to be burned. I was having fun, my husband warned, don't get too close to the fire, and of course, my hair did get a bit singed, ha ha, it was very minor. After that, I was more careful. Thanks for viewing and commenting, appreciate it.

Vicky, your husband is very correct. The smoke may be harmful to your eyes, nose, and or throat. And hair too! I hope yours is okay now! ;)

Also, did you get a nice olive crop?

Vicki, the danger of fire and the associated smoke is often underestimated. Before and during my active career as a maritime officer, I wasn't only trained in the maritime aspects of this profession, but also, in the context of damage control, in fighting a fire. A fire on a ship is a nightmare for every seaman/sailor, because the scene of the disaster at sea cannot be left. I once experienced a fire at sea (due to a overheated propeller shaft) and luckily it was quickly under control. Therefore I like to join me in John's comment above. I think you agree with my comment because of your fire experience.

Oh I want to smell those branches. I never have, but imagine they would have a wonderful scent. Please take care near the fire !. This is such an interesting post, thank you

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
