Not sure what these seed pods are but the orange and black bugs sure seemed to like them. I thought both the bugs and the pods presented an interesting, albeit unusual contrast and comments are always invited. I am no longer going to participate in the VB as I believe that it does not represent the true value of anyone's work. Sorry - just my opinion. I'm going to continue taking pictures and showing them and invite any and all comments, especially those constructive to helping me get better as a photographer.

First of all, this is a great subject matter. A like the blurred background but the pods could use little more focus. The bugs are cool for sure! I believe this is milk weed pods. Nice shot overall:)

Hi, Joey...

First of all I can't believe that you've opted out of the VB. I know I would never make such a drastic move. After all, the voters take great pains and sometimes seconds to ascertain the true value of your photo. The voters are well schooled photographers and only have your best interest at heart. The institution of the VB is a lesser place without you. Shame shame shame.

The first thing I thought when I say the photo was, "Gross!!". Upon closer examination, I still think it's gross. Very good colors and excellent depth of field, but the bugs are not quite as sharply focused as they could be. However, if I had taken this shot, the bugs would be an orange blur.

Nice and sharp focus on the colourful bugs. The background looks good. You are quite right about the C-Index. You may get a score close to 50 for a rusty piece of iron but a 30 for a beautiful bird.

Super job on this capture. I too understand your feelings about the VB. Keep the fine work coming.

Joey - VB - can't live with it, can't live without it; I understand your frustrations with it.
The bugs' colors show so well against the light color of the seed pods. (I hope they don't think that their natural camouflage is working here!) I like how you composed the shot, with the dof producing the blurred background. Thad
