Artaxerxes and Rover.
In 1925, 4 year old Michael Tolkien lost his toy dog on the beach and to console him, his father, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a story about Rover, a real dog who gets turned into a toy and goes to find the wizard who changed him to return to being a real dog.
"Then he put the ball in his pocket, just to tease the dog, and turned away. I am sorry to say that Rover immediately bit his trousers, and tore out quite a piece. Perhaps, he also tore out a piece of the wizard. Anyway, the old man suddenly turned around very angry and shouted, "Idiot! Go and be a toy!"
