My first finished attempt at pure digital painting in Photoshop. Loosely based on an image by Martin Bland, I thought I'd try to recreate something similar just to see if I could do it. I've still got a long way to go but it would be interesting to hear a few other opinions. Thanks for looking.

I like this as it is, though not quite enough to give it hard drive space (but I tend to avoid desktops with people, so it takes a lot to get me to download one...).

I like the background skyline and your use of light, the birds and the reflections on the flooring. I like the slightly hazy/misty effect, although I worry it might just be dirty glass...

Since you ask explicitly for opinions, I'll mention a couple of things which I currently find distracting and/or unrealistic/unfitting. Bear in mind that I have _no_ idea how to generate these images and am somewhat in awe of those who do, so my criticism should definitely be understood as seriously qualified by ignorance and inexperience. First, the tree in the pot really looks odd to me. It looks as though it cannot decide whether to be a real tree in a real pot, a model of a tree in a pot or something else altogether. Second, the railings etc. strike me as a bit _too_ perfect - a bit too precise and symmetric. This could, however, be because this is in a soulless airport (which is to say, any airport) in which case, it is quite realistic but they'd have something much more plastic-looking than the tree. Third, the womon appears to be floating. I'm not sure if this is deliberate or not. Is the watcher meant to be a ghost or spirit? I can't quite tell if this is a deliberate effect or an accidental slip, so take it in the light of your intentions.

I think this is a neat idea, though, and there's obviously a great deal of potential here. Moreover, as I say, it is really pretty good, in my not -so-humble opinion, as it is. But if you are looking for places to improve, I'd think those would be good places to start. Then again, I don't actually know that as I don't know how to make these things at all.

Hope something here is semi-helpful and apologies if not. I look forward to seeing more. If this is your first attempt, I am expecting great things very shortly!

This is very interesting.

This evokes alot of emotion. Mostly a little bit of aprehension and maybe a tiny bit of fear. It seems to be a very scary image. Not that that is bad. It's just the darkness of it, the shadows, the way the person is just standing there. Very menacing. Almost sends a chill up my spine. Very Very well done!

Mabe a look at Monk by the Sea by Caspar David Friedrich would provide further inspiration, concering the mood in particular.

" ... to see if I could do it."

Yes ... yes, you can and did.

This really is a piece of art. Another very, very accomplished image from you.

If I had to ... had to suggest a means that might emulate Bland's work more so ... it would be this ...

Given the colourations I think ... think, that perhaps the sky could be more muted. The contrast between the foreground and the backdrop is the single item that separates this from his.

And that is a good thing ... more ownership of creativity in my mind for you, for what you have produced visually for us here.

Extremely well-balanced composition ... mood and feel? ... incredible.

Really well done and thank you ... for sharing your talents. I do enjoy your work. :o)

p.s. Now all you have to do is go around and calibrate your viewers' monitors so that they do in fact ... 'get' this, and just how excellent it is. ;o)

I had no idea this was digital at first glance from the gallery! It's really quite wonderful how the shading blends together so perfectly. The glow of the sunset reflecting on the floor is amazing as well. Blown-up to full-size makes it even better - all the little lines on the floor and the windows in the buildings... amazing attention to detail!
