An early January dusk from Stanage Edge in the Peak National Park. I often go up here to reflect on things. Its cathartic watching the weather roll in across the natural beauty of the area, and very often I spend hours without seeing another person. The hills in the backgound are the highest in the Park. I have processed this on a new monitor & graphics card, so although I think they are working together I,m not so sure how it will display on other monitors yet. Please enjoy.

Nice shot.

On the note of colours, et al.. looks good good.

Think your new monitor and GFX card are going to serve you ... and ... us, well. :o)

Caveats?

Really undecided on the horizon placed at mid-point. The ol' rules stuff, kind of sort of.

For your consideration then, a crop.

Changes the aspect ratio, however, more importantly (in my humble opinion) better balance within frame. And.. proportions of land versus that of sky now, puts more emphasis where it should be, perhaps?

That of the foreground subject, then.. leading out to the rest of the setting and underscoring the 'solitude' of your shot here more so.

Hope you don't mind ... "Solitude" - cropped.

Quite like the simplicity and how you composed this one.

And but of course, thank you for sharing this one with us. :o)

So beautiful! I was going for Dartmoor when i saw it in the VB but Peak District works for me! I love the emptiness this photo pervades and i can almost hear the wind buffeting around my ears! There is nowhere else in the world that looks quite like this and you have captured it perfectly! Amazing :D

Barry... following Les' advice... I eventually tried cropping your image to 1280x820 to keep the complete v-patch of blue. And I agree with Les re. the balance... I took the 820 from the bottom->up again agreeing with Les that the land portion was more important. Because I have a wide-screen monitor, I have different tricks for making a picture fit my screen... and I don't worry about truth at all times... beauty satisfies me whenever an obvious form is not present to be distorted! I mention this because I re-sized the 1280x820 to 1280x960 and it still looked fine to me...! If you figure the sky is more important, try cropping from the top->down. According to my calculations, in OpenOffice, 70% - 80% of the height moves your horizon from the middle to the 71% - 63% mark (67% is the prime target). :o) Does this comment do a proper job of confusing you!? :o)
Don't let it! You can rest assured that you have a fine image here!
I have a pic posted here that does not conform to the Rule of 1/3s! But I prefer it the way it is... so if you have a preference... stick to your guns! I state the Rules only to show I am aware! :o)

I love the color qualities, the framing and composition, and truly enjoy the horizon it mid-point. Indeed, I love everything about this photo! Great job!

I like the way that striking patch of blue sky seems to mimic the rocky outcrop (Straight Edge?)...I see this one as a companionship of land and sky.
