The Causey Arch is a bridge near Stanley in County Durham. It is the world’s oldest surviving railway bridge. It was built in 1725-26 by stonemason Ralph Wood, funded by a conglomeration of coal-owners known as the "'Grand Allies'" (founded by Colonel Liddell and the Hon. Charles Montague) at a cost of £12,000. Two tracks crossed the Arch: one (the main way) to take coal to the River Tyne, and the other (the bye way) for the returning the empty wagons. Over nine hundred horse-drawn wagons crossed the arch each day using the Tanfield Railway.

Fantastic capture and love the way you have 2 different styles of bridges. That old railroad bridge is really a beautiful piece of work from many years ago. Such wonderful colours and composition and have to agree with the gentle lion, it would be a gorgeous oil painting. Bravo on this posting

There is no way this picture can be properly appreciated unless viewed full screen. Gorgeous. Love the light touch of the pink blooms in the bushes on the left. KEEP-PAH!

I believe the Honorable Charles Montague was one of those who lived in the boarding house run by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

A good example of what you can do when you and the Owd Timer get serious about composing a beauty of a photograph Count AAB.

Full wagons the high way and the empties the low way! Very nice view of both bridges Richie. All the green and the little flowers add to the beauty of the scene.

I like the contrasts presented by the two bridges and what they were to mankind (women too). They are on parallel journeys across the land, but serve such clearly divergent purposes. One a metaphor of the other.

What a feast for the eyes... all that detail. I especially like the way you positioned yourself to capture both bridges at a diagonal, one above the other, showing their different character, construction, and relationship to the foliage, one above it and the other encapsulated by it.

The angle you shot these two was great. I like the way it takes your eyes from left to right to view them both and take in all the details.
