In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks still bravely singing fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead: Short days ago, We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved: and now we lie In Flanders fields! Take up our quarrel with the foe To you, from failing hands, we throw The torch: be yours to hold it high If ye break faith with us who die, We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields...R.. Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

Excellent depth and I like the contrast of color to the monotoned sky. I don't know why but something in the center that has the trees behind it seems out of place. I think because it is sharply focused, but nothing around it is.

That is a very touching statement from Lt. Col. McCrae. Nice shot of the ground and the dark cloudy sky suits the sombre statement of the Lt.colonel.

Every time when I visit Ypres and its environment (Flanders, Belgian: east from Calais and south, but not that far, from where I live) I'm silent again, because one is confronted again with the cruelty of WW I.

This link is for the ones who like to know more about Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD.

Touching image Richie, enhanced by an appropriate sky

Very dramatic sky that highlights the sombreness of the place. Well done!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
