This was the scene at Crosby Beach today. Crosby beach is directly opposite the beach at "Glorious" New Brighton across the mouth of the Mersey.
The Statue you can see in the foreground is part of "Another Place" by Antony Gormley. It consists of 100 life-sized cast-iron statues of a naked man spread over 2 miles of beach. All the men are staring out to sea.The statue is wearing a hard-hat because people regularly come and dress them, or give them hair styles made of wet sand. They have been used in crowd scenes in Nativity plays at Christmas and generally embraced by the local community. The other man in the image is a fisherman - a living human being - but still just staring out to sea.
