Pelicans are such wonderful birds. Whenever I see them in flight I think of a cargo plane, amazing that they can carry those beaks with such apparant ease...
Good to see this rated so well, I'm very jealous... :)
Thanks everyone! And yes, Samatar, pelicans are fascinating creatures. Everything seems out of proportion. I'm surprise that this pic is rating so well too but I'm not complaining! hehehe

_+..Sometimes we get second chances . And sometimes we never make it past the first . It really makes you wonder why somethings happen when they do . It really makes me wonder why it wasn't me instead of you..+_
Is this in Oz?
The Entrance?
This is a very effective shot! It would be trivial to spoil it by including more birds or just about anything else. I think much of the draw here is that "National Geographic" characteristic - impact through simplicity!
Nice job!
THAT'S SOOO COOL!!!! I like pelicans they're cool :) and that picture of yours is awesome! I like the color of the clouds and the water... and you can see all those other pelicans in the distance! So many of them! I always wanted to see that many pelicans... And the pic definitely fits its title!
Great shot. Everything works. The different stances of the birds, the background, the sunlight highlighting the birds with the darker cloud. The only thing that I would like to see is the horizon a little higher in the frame, but I can see that you also want to avoid too much concrete dock, so I'm not sure how you might have done that.
P.S. When you say The Entrance, I assume that is the one on Lake Macquarie.
Thanks heaps, Steb. Yes, I can see what you mean about the horizon but the pavement has lots of bird poo so it is to be avoided at all cost! hehehe Yes, it is Lake Macquarie in NSW. I don't really expect too many members and visitors of caedes to know this. ;^)
This photo is hilarious and has made my day, i always thought that pelicans were funny looking creatures anyway but this really takes the biscuit! Thanks for making me laugh. By the way, did you take this picture before or after you saw the film Finding Nemo?!!
This is a wonderful shot. Thanks. Living on the Gulf coast I have only seen Brown pelicans and White pelicans - never thought about any other kind; it is nice to know there are other beautiful pelicans in other parts of the world - I think I will do a little research on them. Thanks for a wonderful, interesting photo, and the education!
