It seems as though it was just yesterday when all the trees nearby were chosen for decorations and family traditions. Maybe next year will be the year. But for now, endure and be patient while Waiting for Santa again.
Hi John, It is a well captured picture! Personally I think that the tree in the middle should be more to the left taking it away from dead center which would comply with the rule of thirds. Block the left section of the picture with a piece of paper and see for yourself. Please dont take this bad. I think the colours and the composition is just fantastic!
LOL John, I hate Christmas so I'm always happy when it's a long way off!! I like this shot a lot, the empty picnic table in the snow really gives it a sense of melancholy. I think Paul's right in the comment above about moving the tree off-centre, but I don't know what that would do to the rest of your composition. Terrific shot, one of my favourites from you.
I know what they mean about rule of thirds, but if you did crop the photo where suggested, you would then not get the feeling of space around this tree which is what I think you may have been trying to achieve. I like this one. Well done!
Ann
I am very familiar with the rule of thirds. I incorporate it often in my shots. This picture is for the eye and soul. And, Ann, I believe you are correct about the feeling of space. Cropping this picture would have changed it from what I saw and from what I liked about it when I approached it with my camera. This is the view I liked and present. It is the rule of casechaser.
I like that. The rule of casechaser. Very original. I like the way you have presented the tree. It's almost like it is being saluted by the other trees. Well, something like that. I hope you weren't thinking of sitting at the picnic table and waiting for Santa, too. Nice picture, John.
Rule of casechaser. I'm going to have to remember that one!
Lots of room for presents under this tree, and it's a good thing it's where it is, cause if it were here...the snow would be up to the bottom-most branches!
"Where there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see." ~Dorothea Lange
I much appreciate all the comments I receive about my images, but please excuse me if I don't always reply. My interest in Caedes is exceeding my time available!
The Rule of Casechaser ROC's. I like it. I also like this photo. I'm see the feeling of Christmas' Past still lingers with you. Embrace those years, but also enjoy Christmas Present and Christmas Future. Very melancholy photo as Owd Timer said. Have a good day and I love this photo. It's in the faves now.
The heck with the rule of thirds and the rule of casechaser, I would cropped out everything but the picnic table and pasted a case of beer onto it. Called it Wating for baseball. Call it the rule of Miller. ;-)
Great post John, I like the feeling of space in it.

totally worn out,
and loudly proclaiming,
"WOW! What a ride!"'
Dear John, you are a favorite of mine for these beautiful composition! The tree is perfect where it is, composition wise and ground wise. (I hope he stays there). I love all that white space and the interlacing branches, and the fog too. Poetic once again. :) + faves
No trees were killed in the sending of this message. However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.
COME ON YOU GREENS, UP THE ARGYLE.....
This reminds me of Christmas cards we used to get when I was a child. They where framed with an oval shaped frame and a Cristmas tree in the middle. In this photo you have framed the tree with two other trees and it is beautiful. Very well done!
First of all I was agree with Corconia and Nigelmoore, but after that I think that Ann is absolutly right. Rules are made to be turned away, and so the ROC's is correct. Anyway this image is very great, bringing a lot of loneliness and peacefulness. Well done.
