I had been listening to a local jazz station while driving over to Highbanks Metro Park. The last song I had heard was Simply Red's "Holding Back the Years." My mind was still humming away with it when I came upon this spot in my walk. Right or wrong, I have married the two to each other. Here are the lyrics to the song. I hope you remember it!

Simply Red ~~ Holding back the years

Thinking of the fear Ive had for so long.
When somebody hears,
Listen to the fear thats gone.
Strangled by the wishes of pater,
Hoping for the arm of mater,
Get to me sooner or later,

Nothing ever could, yeah.
Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on.

Chance for me to escape from all I know.
Holding back the tears.
Theres nothing here has grown.
Ive wasted all my tears,
Wasted all those years.
Nothing had the chance to be good,

Nothing ever could, yeah.
Ill keep holding on,

Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on
So tight.

Such a beautiful place for a stroll! Gorgeous shot, John, with excellent lighting and color! After reading your lyrics I had to find the song to hear it. So cool and wonderful! Excellent on both counts!

I feel like I've been down that road before, John, and maybe I have. I have heard this song before and it a pretty melody. The video reminds me of the thirties. Nice post.

Simply Red was new to me so I googled him and the song. I liked it very much. Glad you posted this for that reason. I wander what information is on the sign by the tree. Anyway it looks like one.
Good post Shad. Again the light and shadows are good.

I love that song. I've heard it a hundred times or more. Thanks for this picture. It has great lighting and colors. I saw the signs to Highbanks the last time I went to see my sister, but I didn't have time to go. One of these days. Very nice post, John.

Simply Red are one of my favourite groups and I think you have married this image up very well to the words of that song. Well done!
