On this Veterans Day, November 11th, 2009, in respect and honor of our veterans past and present, this quote from Thomas Paine (1737 - 1809). The source is The American Crisis, no. 1, December 23, 1776

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we may obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods. It would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as Freedom should not be highly rated.

A great quote to make us think of Veteran's Day Shads. The photo gives us a place to go and ponder what Thomas Paine said.

The railing is a good place to stand and remember the huge price paid for the ability to stand there and remember. The textures in the wooden deck are outstanding. The light and shadows go without saying.

We haven't been Jeeps for a long time but it was the beginning for us.

BTW
Today, 11 November, we should celebrate like 4 of July - this is our Independce Day.
In 1918 Poland became a country again after 123 years of having been partitioned between the Russia, Prussia and Austria.
From what I have heard the Austrians were not that bad = look at Kraków [Cracow]. Prussians took care of what came to them like their own. The Russians let their part to rot away ....[from Warsaw eastwards].
Sorry to say so and please trust me, I mean nothing personal - in particular these days - when we all are so overhappy from belonging to United Europe.
