Here is some information about The Watchers from Wikipedia.

In the Book of Enoch, the watchers are angels dispatched to Earth to watch over the humans. They soon begin to lust for human women, and at the prodding of their leader Samyaza, they defect en masse to illicitly instruct and procreate among humanity. The offspring of these unions are the Nephilim, savage giants who pillage the earth and endanger humanity.

Samyaza and associates further taught their human charges arts and technologies such as weaponry, cosmetics, mirrors, sorcery, and other techniques that would otherwise be discovered gradually over time by humans, not foisted upon them all at once. The Greek myth of Prometheus revealing fire-making to humans without Zeus's permission is likely a variant of the same ancient legend, and it is possible also that ancient legends among many cultures about cannibalistic giants and pervasive implementation of magical powers (such as in the tale Jack and the Beanstalk) arise from the same ancient mythology that came to inspire the Books of Enoch.

Eventually God allows a Great Flood to rid the earth of the Nephilim, but first sends Uriel to warn Noah so as not to eradicate the human race. While Genesis tells us that the Nephilim remained "on the earth" even after the Great Flood, Jude tells us that the Watchers themselves are bound "in the valleys of the Earth" until Judgment Day.

I think I saw them at a Weight Watchers meeting Shads. They were pigging out at the snack bar. You have discovered a unique way to present images that do not look to be of this earth.
I like it.

An amazing piece, John...both hauntingly beautiful and disturbing...I didn't immediately see the 3 figures because of the skillful way you merged the colors...there is definitely a magical unearthly look to them...fascinating narrative too...don't think I'll turn off my lights tonight, lol, but I will be faving this one.

Wildly creative, these watchers also remind me of the masks of Mardi Gras and/or the underground cultures. Excellent details and imagery. I too think it is fascinating how history and legend become so intertwined... Almost by design huh? : ) There's a joke (sort of) around our house that alien visitors are sometimes Angels, good and bad, too.

I think you made a surreal picture of The Watchers. Good or evil, it is difficult to determine. But one thing is certain, you have done a very good picture. Very well done John.

I do feel as if your image is watching me. Mythology teaches such fine metaphysical abstracts true for once and for always.
The information you provided is very interesting. I did not know that about the Book of Enoch. I find mythology fascinating and it's no wonder my favorite stories growing up were always the fairy tales, with Cinderella being the all time favorite.
I like the way the blackened sides of your image lend mystery to whatever is watching (over?) us.

Exceptional work, John! I love the dark aspect of the image and the splashes of bright, primary colors in the faces. I also like how the image fills the frame, which gives me the feeling that "the watchers" are intruding upon my space. A very unusual and compelling piece of art.

Oh, and I'll be sure to keep an eye out for them as I take my camera into the valleys of the earth, looking for cool things to photograph. :)
