When Elephants Roamed on the Beaches of Marmara was photographed in (about) 1970 in Karamürsel, Turkey. This picture was transferred from a slide and clearly shows its age, damages, and assorted other problems. I was stationed there for a year and a half.

We did not know each other back then, but my friend Tick was stationed at a similar base in Brindisi. Between the two of us, we were able to defeat the red armies and preserve freedom for the world. Not too bad, huh?

John,
This image is so very meaningful that I will not even attempt to start to analyse its merits.
It is so very meaningful too that now in 2014 we all can watch this with our own - so different - memories "like it was yesterday".
Thanks, my wise artist friend.

I tried enlisting in the Navy with a buddy in 1968 but they told me they wanted to win the war and to go home. They took my buddy though. Thanks to you and Tick! Happy Memorial Day!

I am glad we saved the "free world," Shads. No wonder I am so tired.
Amazing that a little round dish can accomplish much more then the Elephant Cage.
