A waving ocean of chocolate obsidian. While digging into a mountainside in the Philippines, prior to constructing a monsoon drainage ditch, my pick pulled up a chunk of obsidian, about 3" square and a foot long, and, many years later, helped install an exhibit case of minerals and geological specimens, and the portions in your fractal that are rising to the top look exactly like that. Fluid volcanic glass. Neato.
