In ancient Greek mythology, Acheron was known as the "river of woe," and was one of the five rivers of the Greek underworld. The word is of uncertain etymology.

In the Homeric poems, the Acheron was described as a river of Hades, into which Cocytus and Phlegethon both flowed.

The Roman poet Virgil called it the principal river of Tartarus, from which the Styx and Cocytus both sprang. The newly dead would be ferried across the Acheron by Charon in order to enter the Underworld.

Maybe that's what Hell is. You go mad. And all your demons come and get you just as fast as you can think them up.
Anne Rice

It was life, often unsatisfying, frequently cruel, usually boring, sometimes beautiful, once in a while exhilarating.
Stephen King

Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.
Mark Twain

I wonder what your idea of heaven would be - A beautiful vacuum filled with wealthy monogamists. All powerful and members of the best families all drinking themselves to death. And hell would probably an ugly vacuum full of poor polygamists unable to obtain booze or with chronic stomach disorders that they called secret sorrows.

Your posts are multifunctional, John: enjoying the viewer (by your high level and artistic creations), enhancing our knowledge (by giving us appropriate quotes), and providing us with entertainment as well (the music links).
This one is an excellent example of what I've just said above. Kudos!
S+F! Thanks, 👍 !

I must be going to hell John, because I like the looks of the Electric String Quartet. In my defense, I liked the music as well.
I also thoroughly enjoyed Emmanuel. Both the music and the video. I found it very calming.
Commenting on your posts reminds me of a critic reviewing a book, song, movie or play. They are that multifaceted. As SEA said they are always informative and entertaining.
The crack in the wall makes Hell look beautiful and inviting and draws many to its shores. You have to look at Hell with your soul not your eyes.
Another excellent work my friend.
Have a good weekend.

Extremely well done, superb combination of insight into the Acheron, the essence of the myth, with your superior artwork, and again, always awakening all our senses, the quotes and the music. John, sometimes I wish you were just around the corner, we enjoy your gifts to us very, very much. The comments above are spot on.

Another beautiful work so well done John. I like the construction of the wall (or whatever it is called) opening to that whirlpool. The music is very nice too.
