Once conform, once do what other people do because they do it, and a lethargy steals over all the finer nerves and faculties of the soul. She becomes all outer show and inward emptiness; dull, callous, and indifferent.
Virginia Woolf

How could you tell how much of it was lies? It might be true that the average human being was better off now than before the Revolution. The only evidence to the contrary was the mute protest in your own bones, the instinctive feeling that the conditions you lived in were intolerable and that at some other time they must have been different. It struck him that the truly characteristic thing about modern life was not its cruelty and insecurity, but simply its bareness, its dinginess, its listlessness. Life, if you looked about you, bore no resemblance not only to the lies that streamed out of the telescreens, but even to the ideals that the Party was trying to achieve. Great areas of it, even for a party member, were neutral and nonpolitical, a matter of slogging through dreary jobs, fighting for a place on the Tube, darning a worn‐out sock, cadging a saccharine tablet, saving a cigarette end. The ideal set up by the Party was something huge, terrible, and glittering‐a world of steel and concrete, of monstrous machines and terrifying weapons‐a nation of warriors and fanatics, marching forward in perfect unity, all thinking the same thoughts and shouting the same slogans, perpetually working, fighting, triumphing, persecuting‐three hundred million people all with the same face.
George Orwell, 1984

If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be

John, I hope that the persons depicted in your render, for whatever any reason, aren't surrender themselves (because of the 'hands up' attitude).
I like to confirm too that your conformity post has the the quality as described by the commenters above.
Wonderful contribution again.

When I open a new artwork of yours, John, I notice the title but do not read your post or the other comments right away, in order to study it unbiased. I immediately saw the three human figures, with arms raised and wrists crossed, but that was only fleeting. Then I saw the lighter right half of the image as an abstract face, the black part of the small human figure on the right as nostrils; the moderately sized red spot to the left of the nose as an eye, wide open; the black part of the middle figure as the right ear of the face; and the left figure as simply a portion of the abstract golden hair, blowing in an intimated breeze. While some of your work looks relatively flat (until I enlarge it, that is), others have such depth at any scale, and this one is a perfect example of that. The bright colors, strong as well as soft contrasts, and the representative nature of the various elements here make this an easy choice as another Casechaser favorite.

We are all very lucky you remain on this site, John, treating us daily to such delights.
