The GW-frigates (GW stands for Guided Weapon) of the Royal Netherlands Navy sailed across the oceans from 1975 to 2001. Thanks to the large characteristic large radar dome on top of the bridge, they were striking appearances.

The small photo (above/right) shows one of these GW-frigates. It was taken by me about 1979, while I was sailing in the Oslofjord in Norway. The quality of the inserted photograph isn't that good because the picture was taken with a, state-of-the-art, analog camera and the negative is, because of the age, slightly discolored now.

The Dutch GW-frigates have been scrapped meanwhile. The bridge with the typical radar dome of one of the ships and a 4.72 inch double barreled canon have been preserved and are now permanently on display at the Royal Netherlands Navy Museum in Den Helder. The big picture was taken there.

For a dynamic impression, please check-out this link (spoken text is only available in the Dutch language).

You may have initially have thought that I've provided you with a Manic Monday (Mē) contribution, but it isn't. Strange for me however to see this bridge section and a naval gun on land, 😕 !

An impressive dom now in use for other things and also an impressive sight along with the bridge of the ship. Photo quality is still quite good Cornelius.

I took particular interest in the radar dome. Used for guidance with a number of offensive and defensive projectiles. But, it also reminded me of the kind of dome you may find on naval intelligence ships. Their domes were similar to what we see here.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Sounds like you have been a camera buff (photographer) for many years SEA. Your experience shows every time you post one of your marvelous compositions.
Add this beauty to the list.

A very fine image, Cornelius, both main and insert image. I feel I have had another history lesson as well...that's okay. I made high grades in history in high school.
