This picture, taken on January 18th, 2026, shows the statue of the 17th-century Dutch admiral Michiel de Ruyter in Flushing, a city in Zeeland, The Netherlands.

The monument is located in the port area of Flushing, the city where De Ruyter was born. The statue was created by sculptor Louis Royer, who also made other public commissions of leading Dutch historical figures.

PS: Flushing has been an important harbor for centuries due to its strategic location between the Western Scheldt river and the North Sea. The city was a main harbor for ships of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in the 17th century as well.
